The roots of the Assamese language have originated from Sanskrit, the language of the ancient India. The earliest records of the Assamese language have been traced as far back as the 6th century, when the Varman Dynasty ruled Assam. It is believed that since that time the Assamese language has been shaped and influenced by the languages and accents of the people who migrated to Assam from Southeast Asia.
