Pimsleur Language System

A friend recently asked me how I would characterize the Pimsleur language system succinctly. The Pimsleur program I responded is not simply review focused but is reflects a delayed review approach.

What I mean by that is that the Pimsleur program introduces a word or phrase and gradually reviews it over the course of several lessons. Hence a word or phrases introduced in the first lesson can reoccur ten lessons later.

The method reminds me of an old mathematics textbook I had in high school by the name of Saxon. Saxon was famous for beginning its new lessons, but reviewing several problems from the previous set. For some, the method might seem slow in the beginning, but the review process adds the key to long term retention. This is particularly helpful in light of Pimsleur’s audio centric approach. Since most aspiring students are looking for practical conversational skills, Pimsleur can provide the needed skills.

Anyone interested in learning a foreign language should seriously consider the Pimsleur Language System.
