Assamese is the principal language of Assam, a state located in the northeastern part of India. The Assamese language is spoken in parts of other northeastern Indian states (e.g., Arunachal Pradesh) lying in nearby regions of Assam. Some ethnic groups in Bhutan and Bangladesh also speak the Assamese. According to statistics, about 20 million people across the world speak the Assamese language.

Resources for learning the Assamese language are very limited however.
