Why Learn Hebrew

November 5th, 2009 · No Comments

Hebrew might not be the logical language of choice for most students. The number of people who speak it is relatively small when compared to others. But Hebrew holds a strong attraction for many people. The connection extends beyond Israelis and Jewish communities around the world. Biblical Hebrew holds a special draw for many Christians looking to study the Hebrew Bible.

With the booming Israeli economy, it also has a benefits in the world of business. Most people do not realize that on the NASDAQ, the second largest number of companies are actually Israeli firms. While English studies are heavily stressed in Israel, Hebrew conversational skills can prove a positive addition to a relationship with any Israeli company.

Modern Hebrew is different from Biblical Hebrew, though it actually represents grammatically speaking, a subset of Biblical Hebrew. A person proficient in modern Hebrew can for example read a good deal of the Hebrew texts found at the Qumran. There are vocabulary differences obviously, but the core components remain the same.
